We're back again. It's been almost 2 months since our last
newsletter, and it's time to start catching up on local news. Our website is also (mostly)
a couple of months behind. We hope to gradually overhaul it over the next few months.
In the meantime a few catch-up items, and up-coming events.
More to come soon.
1. PAST WORLD19 EVENTS
First, a couple of comments about 2 of our events held in June.
a) Garden Party
On June 13th, we had over 60 subscribers and friends show up at our annual Garden
Party. The threatened rain held off (as we promised). David Miller who has attended past
world19 Garden Parties as Metro Councillor, City Councillor and mayoral candidate attended
his first as Mayor, as did subscriber and federal candidate Peggy Nash.
Thanks to everyone who came out, and most importantly, we
want to especially thank everyone who helped us in our first-ever financial appeal to help
keep us going.
b) All-Candidates Meeting June 18
Our all candidates meeting was also a success, with over 300 people cramming into
the basement of Runnymede United Church.
Here is the Villager's report of the meeting (although they
neglected to mention the meeting organizers...) http://www.insidetoronto.ca/to/bloorw/story/2019918p-2339277c.html
2. MPAC & PROPERTY ASSESSMENT
Those who have been receiving our newsletter for the past few months have seen
extensive information provided by one of our readers, Bruce Haines, about the serious
flaws in the assesment and appeal systems. We have new documentation from him, concerning
information you will need to provide for your appeal, as well as a thorough letter from
another subscriber entitled concisely and accurately, "What's wrong with MPAC and a
solution".

3. GERARD KENNEDY PICNIC - Aug 14
The following note comes from MPP Gerard Kennedy's office:
Gerard Kennedy, M.P.P Invites you to his 6th annual Picnic in
High Park Sat. Aug 14, 2:00 - 4:00pm
Location: Area 4 which is at the Bloor Street and High Park
Avenue entrance, straight in and to the left - just steps from the High Park subway
station.
4. HIGH PARK EVENTS - Aug. 15
The note below comes from the High Park Volunteer Stewardship Program. See
below for links.
Hello everyone,
In addition to restoration tour that is scheduled in the VSP
calendar for Sunday August 15th there will be a special event taking place, there will be
an official public launch of the Boulevard Beds. The Volunteer Stewardship Program has
been working for four years on the Boulevard Beds around the perimeter of the Grenadier
parking lot building a beautiful native plant community. We started this project because
the Boulevard Beds were in a high traffic area and we wanted to show the public what
native plants look like but other than answering questions from people passing by as we
work or the sign posted on the Boulevard Beds we havent had an official launch or
information session for the public on the Boulevard Beds. So we hope you can come out for
this event and see how well the Boulevard Beds are doing, see what is in bloom and join us
on the restoration tour led by the City of Toronto Restoration Crew. The walk will be a
very interesting and informative tour of the restoration efforts in other areas of the
park.
Well meet at the usual meeting place at the east
entrance of Grenadier Restaurant.
Hope to see you there,
Jean and Gillian
